Can Truemed Issue a Letter of Medical Necessity for Purchases Made Through Third-Party Financing or Installment Plans?

Edited

Yes — if you’re purchasing a product or service using third-party financing or an installment plan (such as Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, or a direct payment plan with a merchant), Truemed can still issue a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) to help support your HSA/FSA reimbursement.

Here’s How It Works

If you’re not checking out through the Truemed-integrated payment experience:

  1. You’ll need to complete our clinical intake questionnaire independently

    • You can start this by reaching out to support@truemed.com

    • A fee applies since you're using the LMN outside of a merchant-integrated flow

  2. Once approved, your LMN will support reimbursement for purchases made from that date forward

    • For example, if your LMN is dated May 20th, you can submit receipts dated May 20th or later

  3. You’ll submit your LMN and itemized receipt to your HSA/FSA administrator

    • This may allow you to get reimbursed for purchases made with a personal credit card or third-party financing

Important Notes

  • Truemed does not offer or process financing directly. If you're using a payment plan, that is managed entirely by the merchant or third-party provider.

  • Your LMN cannot be backdated, so make sure to complete the intake form before or on the same day as your purchase.
