Can TrueMed Issue a Generic LMN for Services If the Merchant Is Not a Truemed Partner?

Edited

In most cases, Truemed can only issue Letters of Medical Necessity (LMNs) for purchases made through our partnered merchants, where we have verified product details and eligibility requirements in advance.

However, there is one exception:

Generic Gym Memberships

If you're looking to use your HSA or FSA for a gym membership — and the gym is not listed as a TrueMed partner — we can issue a generic LMN that supports your reimbursement request.

Here's how it works:

  • Complete our standard clinical intake form

  • If medical necessity is determined, you’ll receive an LMN stating that a gym membership is recommended to treat or prevent a specific health condition

  • You can then use that LMN to submit a reimbursement request to your HSA/FSA administrator, regardless of which gym you attend

Keep in mind: Your provider still has final say on whether the reimbursement is approved. Make sure to include itemized receipts and follow your plan's submission guidelines.

Why We Don’t Offer LMNs for Other Non-Partner Services

For other types of services (like coaching, physical therapy, or diagnostics), we require a relationship with the merchant in order to:

  • Confirm product/service eligibility

  • Ensure documentation meets IRS standards

  • Reduce risk of claims being denied

If you're a customer looking to make a purchase through a non-partner merchant, we recommend encouraging the brand to partner with us at truemed.com/partners.
