What If I Need a Recurring LMN for a Subscription or Ongoing Purchase?
If you’re using your HSA or FSA for a recurring subscription or ongoing purchase (like a monthly supplement or coaching program), your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) must be renewed annually.
Why Do I Need to Renew My LMN?
The IRS requires that LMNs are valid only for the period during which the treating professional has certified a medical need. Most LMNs issued through Truemed are valid for 12 months from the date of issuance. Once expired, a new LMN must be obtained to continue using your HSA/FSA funds for that product or service.
How to Renew Your LMN
Check the expiration date on your current LMN.
When you're within 30 days of expiration, email support@truemed.com and request a new clinical intake survey to start the renewal process.
Once you complete the updated survey, our clinician network will review it and issue a new LMN if medical necessity is still justified.
You’ll receive a confirmation once your LMN is renewed.
