What If I Need a Recurring LMN for a Subscription or Ongoing Purchase?

Edited

If you’re using your HSA or FSA for a recurring subscription or ongoing purchase (like a monthly supplement or coaching program), your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) must be renewed annually.

Why Do I Need to Renew My LMN?

The IRS requires that LMNs are valid only for the period during which the treating professional has certified a medical need. Most LMNs issued through Truemed are valid for 12 months from the date of issuance. Once expired, a new LMN must be obtained to continue using your HSA/FSA funds for that product or service.

How to Renew Your LMN

  1. Check the expiration date on your current LMN.

  2. When you're within 30 days of expiration, email support@truemed.com and request a new clinical intake survey to start the renewal process.

  3. Once you complete the updated survey, our clinician network will review it and issue a new LMN if medical necessity is still justified.

  4. You’ll receive a confirmation once your LMN is renewed.
